1. IF YOU ARE READING THIS ON A FRIENDS PAGE: This is a notice to alert you that this journal is being reactivated and retasked as an idea dump for myself. I suspect I will not be using much in the way of livejournal "cuts" as I spill forth paragraph upon paragraph about why I think that, say, I should be allowed to completely remake Snatcher. For example. If for some inexplicable reason I am still on your friends list, now would probably be a good time to take me off, unless you equate the size of your friends page to your sexual prowess. I am waiting roughly 36 hours from the posting of this message to begin my use of this journal as a well of the incoherently inane.

2. IF YOU ARE READING THIS JOURNAL FOR THE FIRST TIME: Be warned that below this point, you will that many entries are of a disturbing, even disgusting nature. I've attempted to excommunicate some of the more objectionable pieces, but I can't be held responsible for any trauma suffered from reading those things which lie deep within the darkness.

So in Prince of Persia: TSOT, I just killed a CPU controlled character, the woman without whom I cannot restore the Sands of Time (ie, she dies, I lose).....she cried out at my treachery, then collapsed, and in doing so, fell from the platform we were on, down to the rocks below, and then through them, into a magical noclip universe.

Really. She went through several interesting colors I was not supposed to see.

This really is the most polished game I've played in a long time. Chaos Legion is nice, Superstar Saga was great and nostalgic, but within the first five minutes of TSOT, I felt like I was playing through Half-life all over again - all the magic, all the challenge, all the mystery lying around each corner. This is a game so polished you could probably see your reflection if you stared hard enough at the computer screen. Well, I mean, since it's glass and all, you...ah, I'll shut up.

Suffice it to say, if you've got the cash and the ability, this game is worth a rental at the least - it's that fantastic, no matter what your action skills.

...it was sure nice of Capcom to include an extra hard mode to appeal to true action gamers in Chaos Legion, but I wish they hadn't called it "Normal".

You know what, though?

Chaos Legion Tactics.

Seriously. Take the isometric spritesies of Tactics and Nippon Ichi games and make them over as characters and monsters and stuff from Chaos Legion. Turn all the stages into tilesets and all the "scenes" into seperate battles. Make special attacks into abilities and character combos, make the Legions controllable "minions", keep the nice music. Start out with the story of Chaos Legion, then an unlocked "Prelude" storyline to lead up to the main game, and then that unlocks a storyline that takes place after the main game. You can keep pretty much anything else.

Now there's a game I would buy.

Used to be (four-five years ago) I could spit out Terranigma fanfiction at an absurd rate. Now I can hardly get even a word or two of actual good ideas (as opposed to the Terranigma stuff, which is insane shit you can find if you look for it) out.

I blame this on my increased awareness of media forms. I can't help thinking that "Hell To Pay" - my idea to a surprisingly dark and psychotic Megaman BN3 fanfic - would be so much better as a manga. But I can't even draw, and writing can come nowhere close to ideas I've visually imagined.

I mean, think about it. I can write ten pages worth of detail about how a bleeding, exhausted Lan pulls his father's gun on Wily, but that can't convey the powerful image I want to present - the appearance of a conventional firearm into the relatively utopian world of Battle Network - something clearly designed to be able to kill.

But in five or six panels, it would be child's play to emphasize the drawing and aiming of the gun, the shocked silence of the WWW members, Lan's cold and determined look. That flows into a two-page spread of one single second of time, with all eyes on Lan and Wily, their roles of threat and victim now reversed. Screw colors or shading or anything, if I could even draw a straight line I could show the scene in a way thousands of times better than writing it out.

Goddamn.

At least it's not quite as depressing and indicative of a twisted mind as when I thought about an equally (if not more so) dark and disturbing fanfic for FFTA, and by the time I even had coherent story structure I wanted to compose a soundtrack to accompany the reading. I can't even remember what musical note is what letter and stuff. Geez.

This has been a Dais Rant. If Good Things happen, expect this space to maybe be filled with Possibly Cool Game Ideas or Stuff About Games You'll Never Play, at least until the next Bad Thing happens.

If Bad Things happen, well......it's not like anyone will be able to tell anymore, right?
